'WAS I GOOD ENOUGH?'

'Was I Good Enough' stage 1 = 'Was I Good Enough?' c Lucie Walker 2006

'Was I Good Enough?' is a 30" x 36" acrylic on canvas. This question is a theme in some womens' lives, to the point of having proof that they are
beyond 'good enough' ... yet still they wonder.

Here, she's now an angel, and STILL, she is wondering...

This painting is super-charged, very energetic, as the entire underpainting was fueled by an intense emotion: anger.

It softened as I did, and the original is by far my most electric to date. It's my favorite painting.

I couldn't wait to get my mitts on this large canvas! I was really angry from feeling really trapped about a situation and painted bold quick strokes and hardly stopped.

Was blind to my part in the situation so I guess that came out in the painting. Right, Freud? Or would that be No shit, Sherlock. haha

Well as always happens, I got lost in the process and out sprouted wings.

I decided then to make her look cherub-like. So far, I have only stepped back long enough to take a quick snap, not taking care to get a good shot. The curtains were closed and it was really early morning, still dark out. Yeah, an early-morning-before-work spat. Way to go!

She grew some hair and started to look less-cherub like and more petulant. Like me.

Well as you can see I started to lighten up...literally. I added flesh tones over top of all that dark on her face. I also added a sort of bow on her head, and fancied up the wings a bit.

Now I was no longer letting off steam, just painting. I never stopped except for pictures. It took me an entire day, about 10 hours to paint this large piece. And needless to say it was most therapeutic! Ok, here I just kept playing with the face, including the shape, added color, and thickened her hair. Still playing with the wings.

Here, I've added foliage to her hair ;)

I finished the wings with quick little 'v's, grounding the bottom of them with black to add texture. I've added 'bubbles' which to me are other angels. She's done. Click on her :)
