The first thing I pictured was a
woman wearing this slinky black number. If you look realllllly closely, you can
maybe make out the faint scrapes in the paint, outlining her head, and the
outline of what will be her friend. Sometimes I take advantage of paint when
it's still wet, by scraping in a sketch of what I want, and if it all goes
awry, I just run my thumb over it and it's back to just wet paint.

2.
As you can see, this is her rear
view. Her friend popped out of my brush just as easily, because with the
'scraped' outline, I was just filling in color. Sometimes paintings just floor
me with how easily they flow.

Here, the only thing I have added is the floor. You can still
see the vertical lines in the floor, where I hadn't painted the whole canvas
aqua. This ends up working well, as, from these steps right to the finished
painting, it adds a sense of depth and shadow to the floor.

4.
Now it's getting interesting... I
add stairs and some lines to start other rooms. This painting is building
itself, as, all I started with was two women in gowns. Their surroundings could
have been anything from plain black to an ocean liner and anything in between.
I had no idea, and put zero thought into it. I let the brush do the thinkin'
:)

Ah! The party is always in the
kitchen! ;) I add a 'fold' at the lower back on the blonde woman's dress and
find that it really adds a good touch to the fabric.

6.
I highlight the steps and add folks
in the other room, and "sketch" in with a dirty brush, what will be
some sort of table...at this point I'm not sure.
|

7.
Added a fancy blue carpet ;) I got
the design from scraping the other end of my brush into the wet paint. Gotta
work fast with acrylic, as it sure doesn't stay wet for long! That table is
shaping into something. Also, starting to work on the face. . .

8.
...Gettin' there. I add a small
chandelier in the hall behind them and some pictures on the wall. I highlight
the dark hair, and you see that shadow in the blue carpet, going light to dark?
That's from the previous yellow floor showing underneath, but i decide it looks
like a shadow from lighting so I leave it there. The table's blue now :) Oh,
and more folks have arrived!

Now that's changed a bit since the
last photo, heh? ;) Well I showed the painting to the boyfriend and he said,
'It's not that common that there would be three floor colors'. Good point, so I
make it red, and leave the blue carpet, and turns out I like it so much better
that way. It suddenly occurs to me that the other room doesn't look 'finished'
because it needs a darker wall color, and I love love love the burgundy. It
sure warms up the painting. I tweak the ladies (oh my) with more detail and I
add the womens' shadows to the floor. I am diggin' this painting!
