"Tales From The Trip"
Mid-afternoon Saturday, Aug. 5, we rolled into Winnipeg and checked in at the Sled Dog Music Store & Cafe.
Sled Dog is a beautiful music store owned by John Sharples. He sells, services, and repairs stringed-instruments. The store offers lessons, hosts various workshops, and presents monthly concerts. Which is what we were there to do.
We walked in on a jam in progress, right in the middle of the store.
"Just a regular Saturday afternoon at the Sled Dog," we were told.
It was lovely! And it was irresistable to Steve, who picked up the nearest guitar hanging on the wall and joined in the pickin'.
This was all still hours before our 7:30 show! What a welcome! After a while, Steve & I went to grab a bite and toured around Winnipeg a bit (okay, we got lost!) before heading back to the store.
Just like the night before in Regina, we were faced with low attendance,
which was somewhat disappointing, of course, but as always, we had a blast with
the small but mighty audience! We sold CDs and picked up some new friends, how
bad could it be? Then, after hours, we jammed into the wee hours where I heard
some of the sweetest original country songs. Hot Canadian talent in Winnipeg!
