Welcome to The Rockin' Country Blues News!

We're Baaaack: As some of you know, we have been on a complete fast from performing since November, during which time we have focused on writing more songs and working banjo into the act. This time off has successfully re-fueled our enthusiasm for this wacky and unforgiving business, and we are rarin' to go again! We'll be trying out our new material at some local open mics while we start booking for the Fall. (Big thanks to John Texas Haynes and Lotus for putting this invaluable open mic calendar together!)

Performance News: We have a gig booked for September 2nd at our favorite songwriter's showcase, Just Singin' Round. Thank you to Yvonne McSkimming for inviting us! We've so enjoyed performing there in the past. It's a wonderful evening of songs performed in-the-round at the Vancouver Rowing Club. There are usually 3-4 performers on stage who each take a turn getting up and singing a song, then the next guy goes, and the next, until it goes around 3 or 4 times. The very popular showcase has, as of this month, raised $115, 538 for 39 Vancouver charities! Admission is $10 which gets you a sit down dinner and a warm and lovely evening of music. Hope to see you there!

When words fail: A few months ago, we were stunned when a couple of fans-turned-dear friends, John & Lynda Laird, gave us a beautiful, perfect condition, 1992 mini van!!! You could say that up until now, we have been stunned stupid by this amazingly generous act! We have not known how on earth to properly thank them... until we recently mentioned it to someone who said without hesitation, "Write a song for them!" Well, geez!! Of course! So that is what we are currently in the process of doing. *Still* doesn't come close to giving us a mini van, but for now, it is what we can offer. John & Lynda: if you two are reading this, please know that not a day goes by where we don't thank God for you.

Musicians' Photographer for Hire: The pictures on the home page, the bio page, and the gigs page are by Vancouver Freelance Photographer, Louise Porter. We feel confident in recommending Louise's services for the Vancouver Indie Music scene. She does great outdoor photography, listens to what you want, takes the time to set up a shot, and is fun and easy-going. If you are interested in finding out more about Louise's credits and rates, please contact us and we will put you in touch with her. She doesn't know it yet, but we're about to call her again ourselves!

Nothin' Like a Good Schmooze: We had the *best* time we've had in a loooonnnng time on Tuesday, June 17th. We attended the SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) bash at the very posh Fluid Lounge in downtown Vancouver. What a hoot!

Steve and I went with Vancouver vocalist Leslie Harris and guitarist Curtis DeBray (both of hot retro Blues, Jazz & R&B act, lesismore.) On a personal note, Leslie and I have become dear friends and power walking buddies in the last couple months! Not only is Leslie graced with a sparkling & vibrant personality, the woman is socially fearless, and is so good for me. . . I hope it rubs off!

Well for this event, I put all shyness aside (ahem) and had a blast chatting up all kinds of folks! Saw dear Dorothy Allen, member rep at Socan for over 20 years, receive an award. It couldn't happen to a sweeter person! Also the very successful Vancouver based act, Gob, was on hand to accept an award for their current release, Foot in Mouth Disease. My 11 year old son was truly choked that I didn't get a picture or an autograph, but to tell you the truth, he has so many acts he likes that I wasn't even aware this one was among them. Ah well, baaaad Mother. A funny quote I recently heard was "A mother's place is in the wrong." Indeedy! So Gob, if you are reading this... yeah right!

We had such fun chatting and mingling with friends Bill Buckingham, David Wills, Marianne Grittani, Leslie Alexander, Dee Lippingwell, Don Osborn, and so many more wonderful industry folks, musicians and songwriters. Met a couple of very nice guys, Neil Bell & Jeff Fairbank, of local rock band, Shine. Truly nice guys! Check 'em out! Afterwards, a few of us ended up at Bar None where I danced my face off! (It's gone now). The night ended way too soon for me, I coulda kept on going!! I've got to get out more, that's all there is to it!!

{short description of image} Inspired & Renewed: I just attended a seminar entitled, 'Music, Artist Development, & Money'. . .(Earn a Living despite the music business) presented by Don Osborn, of Don Osborn Music. I found it really valuable, and I recommend it to local independent musicians who want to learn more about strategic business planning, goal-setting, marketing, and lots more! These seminars are monthly , and there is so much to learn, I plan on going back for more! Thank you so much, Don!
