We had a great
time performing a set of Rockin' Country Blues originals to all the folks who
came in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's premier
fundraising event, 'Walk for the Cure'.
This program provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about
juvenile (Type 1) diabetes, raise much needed funds to continue essential JDRF
funded research programs and is a great way for corporations and families to
get out for a day of fun and fitness. The Walk is the fastest growing
fundraising event in the history of JDRF and is the fastest growing Walk in the
world. Each year more than 45,000 people across Canada Walk to Cure Diabetes -
including representatives from more than 600 corporations, local companies and
families. Walkers raise funds by asking friends, relatives, co-workers and
suppliers to pledge them for participating. Since its inception the Walk has
raised over $42 million for research, with $6.7 million in 2004 alone.
We were proud to be a part of it this year, and we thank Cherelle Jardine for
thinking of us for this show! We were on at 10 a.m., just before Global TV's
weatherman Mark Madryga made some announcements (Hey you said it would be
sunny!) ;) Big thanks to Ronnie Hayward for getting up early to come play with
us! Some of our set was filmed by camera men from Global and CTV, and there
were various local newspaper photographers out, that's always fun!! :)
