Howdy!
Well, I'm back from my 3 week camping
extravaganza from B.C. to Ontario!
We laughed, we cried, we saw family, we rekindled friendships from years gone
by, we sang around the campfire with new friends . . . well here, I"ll let
the dog tell ya . . .
This interpretive dance, by my beloved English Mastiff, Gracie, 'bout sums up
the experience!
(check your
speaker volume so you don't get fired!)
For my next trick, I'm going on
a three week roadtrip in July! Yep! Camping my way across from Vancouver to
Ontario; visiting my mommy :) I'll have my paint supplies with me,
though...
When we took this trip last year, I had to convince my boyfriend that I NEEDED
my paints, and needless to say with our camping gear, clothes, cooler, English
Mastiff, etc, space was prime in the tiny Civic we were traveling in... Well as
it happened, by the end of driving all day, all I wanted to do was eat, set up
the tent, then crash... Well at a campground in Ontario, The Boyfriend says,
"You better paint, damn it!"

Shaws witty comic play dealing with the long arm of coincidence is loads
of FUN!! Issues such as feminism and gunneries are addressed but not taken all
that seriously. The characters from the Clamptons and the fatherless Clandon
clan, which includes two endearing brats, to the local dentist, intermingle in
hilarious events.

January 9, 2008

I went in on Monday January 8th and put up my gallery wall
at Arts Off Main. It was closed to the public and a few of us were there,
workin' away at our walls. It was fun 'jig-saw puzzling' these paintings up. I
started with the legs one up in the top, and the large on on the bottom,
kitty-corner, and filled the rest in like a patchwork. It was a good challenge,
and I think it worked out great. I love the look of it, and I'm really excited
to be among these artists! I'm all official now and everything!! :)
Arts Off Main is open 11-6 Wed-Sat and 11-5 Sun
Drop in and have a looky!!

Well after a very successful one month run, I took down my
show at Libby's.
As I bagged them up, the owner, Alice, came to me and offered me another month
this year. So of course, I took Lucky December /08! Yay! Thanks, Alice.
From this Wednesday, January 9, you can see some of these paintings again, as
well as several new ones at Arts Off Main, on my new gallery wall.
Yeeeehaaaaa!

WOW WOW
WOW!!!
I am now one of 9 artist partners at Arts Off Main, an
artist-run gallery filled to the brim with local masterpieces! From paintings
to pottery, jewelery to paper art, as well as a vast array of cards and
magnets, this is the perfect spot to get a gift for that special someone...yes,
you! ;)
So...just what does this all mean?
Well... it means that I now have a permanent gallery wall space for my new
paintings! Every time I paint something new, which, if you're following my
young career (!) you'll know that this is often, it will have a home in the
public eye, for sale...rather than my mastiff-haired living room. Hooray!!
It also means I belong to a creative artist collective, and it means that I'll
be working shifts in the gallery so do come visit!
Arts Off Main is located at 216
East 28th (28th & Main) Vancouver B.C.
Hours: Wednesday-Saturday 11am - 6pm Sunday 11am -

Boy, did I ever have a great time at my art opening on Sat Dec.1st! Thanks so
much to all of you who braved the snow and came out to show your support...and
buy paintings! I sold 7!!! You could have knocked me over with a feather!
:)
Do you think I got pictures? Geez. All I can say is I was too busy livin' it
up! :)
Here's some of the art, with sold signs on a couple of the ones that went.
First, goofy me...

That's just a little peek...there are 40 paintings up! My art hangs at Libby's
Kitchen - 3429 Porter St (18th & Victoria, across from Trout Lake Community
Centre, Vancouver) for the month of December 2007... go have a looky!! If you
want to buy a painting as a gift, I will take it down for you before Christmas
so that you can have it under the tree!

Opening Reception at Libby's Kitchen
3429 Porter St. (18th & Victoria)

Well... long time no see, heh? I feel as though
I've done lots and I feel as though I've done little...
I spent from February to June taking private weekly oil paint classes with
artist Madeleine Wood, and MAN, was that wonderful. I learned so much!
I have a better understanding of how to use oil paint and I did something in
these classes that I never did before: I painted from life. I painted what I
saw, and further, I started each canvas by drawing it first. I would either
paint what was in front of me, like oranges or scenery...or I would work from a
photograph. It was much different than my usual approach which is the highly
technical act of wingin' it ;)
In the end, I missed painting with acrylics, not loving the toxicity of
solvents (but adoring the brilliant colors and the way that oil behaves...) and
I missed approaching a canvas without a map. So I stopped classes, feeling like
I had to step back and apply everything I was learning. I stepped back,
alright, I stepped all the way to Ontario, driving and camping my way across,
the car loaded with art supplies, among other necessities. ;)
Truth is, I've essentially taken the summer off painting, not so much as a
decision, but just because of the way it turned out. I guess I've been
re-fuelling, the same way I do with songwriting and performing. There's a lot
of work going on, but it's the 'root work'...the underground. The showy blooms
will be the paintings...they're starting to flow... I've got two new ones this
summer. Yes, that's down from 2 per week, but I feel I've gone deeper into
being an artist, and hopefully, I'll find (and you'll find) the paintings worth
the wait. Nice to be back.
Oh, this is cool... my photographer friend, Ellen Crystal, emailed me a photo
of 2 of my paintings hanging in her kitchen, framed by Liz McLaughlin from Arts
Off Main. Ellen bought 'Beach Mama', the bottom painting, last year and when
she came to my art show at Libby's this past December, she was surprised to
find 'At the Pool' and thought it was a good match for 'Beach Mama'. So now she
has them, and I quite agree, they make a great pair. Really, a Happy Accident,
since they weren't planned as a series. Thanks so much for sending this photo,
Ellen!

And that's just
the living room . . . |
So, guess what I've decided to
do. . .
In 2007, I'm lucky enough to work with Artist MadeleineWood. My hope is to
really understand OIL paint and maybe a little of the art world. I'm really
looking forward to meeting and working with her!! YAY! This is my first foray
into formal training. Weeeee!
The OTHER thing I've decided to
do . . .
Is SCULPT. All those women in those lonesome scenes that keep popping
out of
my paint brush are going 3-D.

The Drift is an annual art
festival which takes place along Main Street in Vancouver, and runs from
mid-September to mid-October. During this month, local artists showcase their
work in shops, galleries, and cafés along Main Street. Also, for one
weekend during the Drift, our artists open their studios to the public. Ok,
that's a little back story, lifted directly from
'The Drift'
website, with my thanks.
LIz McLaughlin from Arts Off Main arranged for AOM
members and consignees to show in the gallery next door, The Sacred Box, and
phoned to invite me to take part in it! I was so honored to be included and
must have thanked her 13 times!
So I chose the paintings that you see above and hung them there on Saturday
morning. When I went to pick them up on Sunday, I was delighted to find that I
had sold one! I sold 'A Million Miles Away' (the photo's upper left, under the
peas) to a lovely woman named Claudia! ~Thank you, Claudia~ And Thank
you, Liz, and all the folks at Arts Off Main!
These shots were taken at Arts Off Main on the weekend of Aug 26th & 27th,
2006. I was happy to be the Featured Artist for the weekend and the weather was
perfect: sunny & warm, with a breeze. I enjoyed this weekend so much!!Click

My Libby's
Experience
I can't say enough good stuff about
having a show at Libby's. I hung my paintings on Friday, December 2nd, and two
days later on a Sunday afternoon, had my art opening. It looked so cozy in
there, lots of people, a great vibe, with excellent food catered by Stephanie
McNulty and her staff.

Even after the opening, I've been really happy
with the fact that Libby's is a very busy spot, and so many people have seen my
art who otherwise wouldn't have. It's been great exposure, which has resulted
in lots of sales! It's been a wonderful month, an excellent experience, and I
would line up to do it again next year.

With Lisa MacIntosh, the proud new owner of the painting, 'The Bus'
Thanks so much, Lisa!
