UPDATE on the Dec 5/09 Art Opening: WOW the art opening was amazing! So many friends showed up! I sold 19 'previous works by donation', and 4 new pieces from this year's show! I am head over heels in love with all my friends, and I feel so wholly supported and blessed and loved and grateful. Thank you to Dale Rollings, of Diamond Point Photos, for taking outstanding pictures of the event. I will post some up here on the website in a couple days.

Life is so very sweet and I am a blessed woman.

Oct. 24. 09

Hi there! It's now October and I am back from a Vancouver to Ontario House Concert Tour, singin' my lil' heart out and making lots of new friends...and now I'm painting up a storm in preparation for my December Solo Show at Libby's. If you're in Vancouver BC, write to me if you would like an invitation to the opening party!

Jul. 05.09

Well I'll be. After a 7 month dry spell, I painted something. Just a little 6x12, but it's somethin'. The next day, I painted another somethin. It felt so great to lay brush to canvas, to have the colors choose themselves, and to go on automatic. Big sigh of relief. Intellectually, you KNOW it will come again, but there is a part of you starting to wonder after a few months. Ah, it's like a good rain. I'll finish it and post it up in the image gallery.

I have been indulging in, and pursuing, my other passions of late.

The paintings will come again, in their own time...meanwhile, I am re-fueling after a very busy year, where out tumbled 44 canvases!

The ones that didn't find their new homes are still here, in my little home, and still available, should any strike your fancy.

Happy New Year!

I took down my show and all the art is back home, some of the paintings waiting to be claimed by their new lovers. At least, I hope they become lovers :) ...

I haven't got any art show plans yet this year, other than my Libby's show in Dec 09 (mark your calendars, lol!)

I just want to see where the paint takes me . . .

Seeing as this is a new year, it's fitting to have a resolution:

This year, I intend to find a place to paint.

Obviously, by my output, I've been painting SOMEWHERE, but I promised my boyfriend I would get my easel out of the livingroom.

He's been patient, but he wants to watch tv sometimes without having to move things with me going, "Careful...there's still water in that... " and "Aaaaaah...that's WET PAINT!!" and so he doesn't have to hear me say, "Ah, man, there's another dog hair in my painting..."

Nothing fancy, as in, the more rudimentary the space, the better, but specific, in that I would like daily access, a window, and access to a sink...

My art opening for my solo show at Libby's went ~swimmingly~!
Thanks to all the folks who came out to the show!

I sold 9 (update Dec 8 - make that 10! Weeeee!*Update...make that 11!) paintings altogether in this show, and I'm always so delighted and amazed when people see what I see and buy one of my paintings. Or, see what they see, and buy one of my paintings.

There are paintings still available in this show, that can taken down in time to place under someone's tree! There are also art magnets of my paintings for sale until Christmas. They are $4 each or 3 for $10

With painting sales, my cards are at my show; simply contact me. I live very near Libby's and can arrange to meet usually with short notice. Magnets can be paid for at the counter when you purchase your coffee/snack/lunch.

My month-long solo show at Bean Around the World in Kitsilano went beautifully! I was well-recieved, and made to feel most welcomed! In fact, I've been invited back for next year! Thank you so much, Jess, and all the Bean staff for this opportunity; one I really appreciate.

And now, I'm painting like a mad fool (what's new) for my next show, which is at Libby's in December. If you live in the Lower Mainland and would like to be invited to the opening night, (you know, drink free wine, eat free food, hang out with me), please email me with LIBBY'S in the subject line, and I will put you on the mailing list and you will recieve an invitation to the soiree! When I say soiree, I mean: wear your jeans, bring your happy face, and come hang out with good folks :)

Sept. 27.08

I enjoyed a painting blitz yesterday! Usually that means I'm working on several paintings at a time in one day, usually at the 11th hour before a show.

But this time, it meant that I started a canvas and finished a canvas in about 4 hours, or was it 5, I don't know...I feel like I crawled inside this one.

I mentioned that I had found a few vintage family photos and was looking forward to painting them. Well, I started by painting 'Going to Town', which is currently hanging in the show.

Yesterday, I selected a small (2"x3") black and white photograph, printed it out onto a grainy 5x7, and stood in front of a 30"x30" canvas and had at 'er!

It's a photo of my paternal grandmother, Anna, and her sister, whose name I don't know. The painting is just like the photo other than I couldn't resist introducing flowers into the scene.

I never got to meet my paternal grandparents, and while I've seen this picture over the years, it wasn't until I started 'really looking' so I could paint sections of her face, that I started to feel this recognition. Hey those are my eyes! That's my (unfortunate) chin! haha! It got me all mushy and lost in the work and the time disappeared. The only thing I ever heard about her was that she was shy and nice.

Having said that, I also see two anonymous, playful old ladies :)

Sept. 22.08
Well I hung my art show at the 'Bean' tonight! It's always a huge help to have extra hands at an art 'hanging' and boy, did I have lots of support tonight. I had both my teenaged sons, as well as my boyfriend. They were all so great!

It can be a challenge to hang a show when a venue is open, and tonight we had to work around folks. Instead of barging right in there with a hammer, we chose to put up what we could and work with the flow of the coffeehouse. Ya don't want to hover, but you do want to get the job done, so we LOOKED like a family out for coffee, but suddenly one of us would go, "that guy's leaving!" and lurch over there with the step ladder!

About midway through, I realized I needed more paintings than I'd brought! I had checked the venue out on the weekend and thought I had 'er figured, but was apparently too modest in my assessment!

So the guys held fort and I drove clear across town, all the way back home, gathered 7 more paintings, made 7 more title/price cards, printed those suckers out, and whipped back across town!

I arrived all stressed out from rushing, but saw the art was all up, and the guys were all leaning back in comfy chairs, talkin' motorbikes, so that brought me back down to normal speed :) and all I felt was grateful for my menfolk :)

We hung the paintings I brought, and the place looks real nice! It was dark by the time we were done, but that's from the extra running around.

Here are some pics I took :)
My show is there all month.

This is on the way to the art venue. This is Gracie, our 150 lb English Mastiff, not quite finding her comfort zone. Her front paws are on the floor of the van. This pose lasted about 10 blocks. I was fascinated.

We put up all those little paintings above the doors. See, that's where all those extra paintings came in handy. I had planned for one painting over each door, but it was too sparse!

Sept.16.08

I looked up at the calendar and just realized that it's mid-September already! How'd that happen in 5 minutes?!
:)
It continues to be a busy year with me for art.
Since January, I've had my paintings at

Libby's Kitchen
Bean Around the World on Main
The Agro Cafe on Granville Island
The Naam in Kitsilano
Jericho Arts Centre in Point Grey
Bean Around the World on Cornwall
an upcoming show:
Libby's Kitchen on Porter Street
as well as 2 galleries:
Artistree
Arts Off Main

To all these venue owners/art directors: Thank you so much for your support!

Right now, I'm prepping for my next solo show; I hang it early next week, and there's still a lot to do. There's no formal reception for this show, so I'm happy to meet old and new friends for coffee!

I'm a paintin' fool these days, getting ready for my next show in three weeks!
Been working with an injured wing, as it were. I scalded the inside of my painting arm while pressing down the plunger on a coffee press. When it resisted, I pushed harder, and well, next thing I know, I'm driving myself to emergency. 1st & 2nd degree burns (I'll live!!). I'm now at the tail-end of 10 days' worth of tending to it, and I've been able to paint without it bothering me, for a couple days now. Life is good! (I dug out my coffee machine.)

I found a stash of vintage family photos that I'm having fun using as painting references! I love taking a black & white photo and having the colors in the painting be up to my intuition.
